The End of the World
My fascination with post-apocalyptic films and settings is probably well known by this time. The Mad Max films had a profound impact on me while I was growing up. That interest continued with a huge list of films and even the Fallout video games.
Plus, I wrote and directed a post-apocalyptic movie when I was a filmmaker and wrote an unproduced screenplay in the genre.
So when I created random tables for post-apocalyptic settings, I enjoyed it greatly. Check them out below.
I also created a setting for the OpenD6 System: ANARCHY: The Role Playing Game

Shadow Scar - New RPG from R. Talsorian Games Inc.
I playtested Shadow Scar at Gan Con in 2024, and it was incredible. The player characters are members of an agency that protects the multiverse. This means you can play a character from nearly any time period or setting.
My character was a World War I soldier, but we were in a science fiction setting, something like The Fifth Element. Our goal was to save and recruit a pop star.

I’ve been watching Artemis mission coverage, and it has me dreaming of outer space. Though it usually doesn’t take much to get me to think of space. I saw the above list of games and thought I’d share it.

Gugusse and the Automaton (1897)
I studied film in college, and I have always loved the work of cinema pioneer Georges Méliès. When I saw this headline, I had to click. It is amazing that this film was found.
Top Dog (1995) and An Eye for an Eye (1981)
I’m still stuck on Chuck Norris movies. Most likely, it’s because I got pulled into a whirlpool of nostalgia. I’m remembering old times and friends who have passed away.
Top Dog is an action comedy that is an exercise in how not to make a kid movie. It did get me thinking of familiars, since the dog basically has human intelligence. Familiars should be active and interesting NPCs, not just a mechanic to get advantage on one attack with the Help action. They should have personality and aid the party in creative ways.
An Eye for an Eye is one of Norris’s best. It is a revenge tale, with Christopher Lee as the villain, which is icing on the cake. This got me thinking of revenge as an adventure hook. Gamemasters can introduce situations where the players will have a desire for revenge. This usually increases player engagement because revenge is personal. If you are looking for a way to get your players engaged, create a scene that will inspire them to want revenge.
