We’ve done it! The newsletter now has more than 10,000 subscribers. I’m now looking forward to growing even more so we can share the love of role-playing games.
Space is BIG!!
This article is focused on video games, but it is some interesting food for thought if you are running a space game.
Why space games still struggle with the scale of the universe
Making space feel vast can be key in a science fiction space game. It can invoke fear and wonder. The vastness of space enhances the feeling of isolation, so it can be used to heighten the effect of being lost or alone.
Space being so vast also hides wonders and terrors. We have no idea what could be lurking in the far reaches. Is it cosmic horror or cosmic glory?
Tabletop RPGs do not have the restraints of a video game, so they can reinforce the size of the universe through description and, possibly, some game mechanics.
